BR 4-2: Ireland

Easter Monday 1916 was a very important day in Irish History. After that day, everything was different. In his poem Easter 1916 the Irish writer William Butler Yeats wrote:
All changed, changed utterly.
A terrible beauty is born.

This week, I read this book with my group members for next class. It's about Ireland, and includes Irish geographical features, history, sports, cultures, languages, and so on.
First is about geographical features and around he island. Ireland has so many lakes and rivers. Also, there are hills. Ireland has many beautiful places.
Next is about Irish history and languages. The Irish are Celtic people, and they came from western France and northern Spain. They played a Celtic game called Hurling. It also has history, so it was interesting. In addition, they speak Celtic language. It's different from English, and western France and northern Spain have languages very like it. after that, this book said that relationships between Ireland and Britain, and I could understand that Ireland was a important Christian country. Also, I could read the story of Vikings and monks, and reasons of the white and Red Hand's flag.
Third is about history of fighting. The history of IRA ( Irish Republican Army) was so painful. They illed so many people. Especially, on 'Bloody Sunday' -30 January 1972- British soldiers killed 14 Catholic marchers in Derry. In addition, on 'Bloody Friday' -21 July 1972- the IRA killed 9 people and hurt 130 people. These sadly history, we need to know, I think.
Fours is about cities. There are mainly four big cities in Ireland; Cork, Londonderry, or Derry, Galway, and Waterford. Each of these cities have unique good points, so I wanted to visit at least once.
Finally, it's about stories, musics, and dancing. Jonathan Swift (1667-1745)'s Gulliver's Travels are known around the world. Also, James Joyce (1882-1941) and Samuel Beckett (1906-89) were born in Ireland. A famous singer, Bono were also born in Ireland. In addition, today, many Irish children learning Irish dancing. The Irish dancers Michael Flatley and Jean Butler are famous in many countries, and so many people have seen them in Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. I don't know if I know or not...
By reading this book, I could understand many things of Ireland. I wanted to know the relationships between Ireland and Britain, so it was a good opportunity for me.
